Claudia Osmond

I write middle-grade fiction; partly of the realistic kind, mostly of the magical kind.

I love reading, writing, reading, knitting, reading, camping, reading, yogaing, and reading.

I was born in Austria, but live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada now with my husband, two loving doggos, and an aquarium full of darling little water creatures. (Doggos and water creatures may make occasional appearances on this site. Husband, most likely not.)

I’m represented by Ammi-Joan Paquette of Erin Murphy Literary Agency, and I couldn’t be happier about that! 🙂

“When asked, ‘How do you write?’ I invariably answer, ‘One word at a time.’”

~ Stephen King

Welcome!

I’m far too much of a chicken to read most of Stephen King’s fiction, so the quote above came from a non-fiction book he wrote on writing. And it’s the best advice I’ve ever received. When writing gets hard, when it gets complicated, when I just feel like I’ll never ever be able to finish (or start!) what I’m working on, I think of this quote and it helps me type the first word. And then the next. One at a time. Until I have a sentence. A paragraph. A chapter. A book!

It’s the same with life sometimes, too, isn’t it? Sometimes it gets hard, sometimes it gets complicated, sometimes we feel like we’ll never finish (or be able to start!) what we want to. But if we break it down and take one step at a time, we’ll eventually get there. Maybe very slowly. But we’ll get there. If we don’t give up.

This site is where I’ll share my writing progress and things I’m thinking about, sprinkled with some every day random stuff — click on the “What’s Happening” button in the menu above for updates. But I’d also like to hear from you! Are you working on something that’s taking time to accomplish? A project? Or a story? What are you thinking about these days? What are you celebrating? Send me an email or comment below and let me know. I’d love to connect and cheer you on!

Thanks for visiting and I hope you’re keeping healthy and happy as you take your days one step — or one word — at a time.

  1. After a long day at work sitting in front of a computer screen, I find it so difficult to do the same at home. I miss coffee shops to work in. This is so important to remember. Just take a word at a time! Excited to watch your journey!

    Side note:
I, too, thought that all Stephen King’s work was scary. I learned not all his work is scary, I started with Different Seasons; four short stories all very good! Including Rita Wilson and Shawshank Redemption, and The Body (also known as Stand by Me).

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Amber-Rose. I look forward to sitting in one of those coffee shops with you one day — maybe to work side-by-side, or maybe just to hang out and discuss a not-scary Stephen King book! 🙂
